If you own an EPHIL engine or any other brand of engine with the electric starter, this article will guide you through simple and essential maintenance for the electric starter.
Unlike standard engines, engines with the electric starter require additional maintenance for the starter components during use to ensure a longer lifespan and stable performance.
The maintenance process is very simple and can be completed in under a minute by following these easy steps:
Regularly inspect the gear-drive propeller hub assembly and promptly clean off any grease or dust buildup.
As shown in the picture below, apply a drop of mechanical lubricant to the gaps in the front and rear of the large gear on the gear-drive propeller hub. Rotate the propeller hub while applying lubricant at multiple points. This helps the lubricant reach the internal bearings of the assembly, improving bearing performance.
As shown in the picture below, add a drop of mechanical lubricant to the other gear sets of the electric starter as well.
Use a clean cloth or tissue to wipe off any excess lubricant from the propeller hub.
Let the engine sit for a few minutes, allowing the lubricant to get inside the assembly.
Tests have shown that prolonged use of the electric starter without necessary maintenance can result in insufficient lubrication of the internal bearings, leading to damage. Once the bearings are damaged, the entire propeller hub assembly may need replacement.
Therefore, it is recommended to perform this routine maintenance every 12-15 flights or after 12-15 extended uses of the Pro version engine. This will help extend the lifespan of your electric starter components.
