The injector is a key component in the fuel system of the automobile engine, and its working condition directly affects the performance of the engine. When the injector fails, it may cause a series of problems such as reduced engine power, increased fuel consumption, and difficulty starting. The following are some methods to self-detect injector failure:
1. Listen to the working sound detection
- When the engine is running or starting, you can use a stethoscope or similar tool to check the working sound of the injector. The working sound cycle of the injector will change with the change of engine speed. If the injector does not make the sound it should, it may indicate that it is working abnormally.
2. Resistance check
- Use a multimeter to measure the resistance value between the two pins of the injector. The normal resistance value should meet the requirements of the maintenance manual. If the resistance value does not meet the requirements, it means that the injector may be faulty and needs to be replaced in time.
3. Flow and leakage check
- Measure the injection amount: Install the injector on the test equipment, run the fuel pump, deliver fuel to the injector, and measure the injection amount with a measuring cylinder. Measure each injector 2-3 times. If the measured value is significantly out of specification, the injector needs to be replaced.
- Check for nozzle leakage: Observe fuel leakage without running the nozzle (but the fuel pump should be working). If the fuel leakage exceeds 1 drop/minute, the injector needs to be replaced.
4. Observe engine performance
- If the engine has symptoms such as unstable idle speed, poor acceleration or difficult starting, it may be caused by injector failure. In addition, if the exhaust emits black smoke, it may also be caused by poor atomization or dripping of the injector.
5. Use a fault diagnostic tool
- Use a fault diagnostic tool (such as an OBD-II scanner) to read the engine fault code. If the diagnostic tool displays a fault code related to the injector, it means that the injector may be faulty.
6. Check the fuel system pressure
- Use a fuel pressure gauge to check the pressure of the fuel system. If the fuel pressure is abnormal (too high or too low), it may affect the normal operation of the injector.
7. Increase oil pressure test
- Increase the oil pressure to 10-20 MPa to test the injector's operation under high pressure conditions. If the injector cannot withstand high pressure or cannot inject oil normally, it means that the injector may be faulty.
Precautions
- Before any test, make sure that the engine has cooled down to avoid burns or other accidental injuries.
- If you are not sure how to operate, it is recommended to seek help from professional technicians to avoid unnecessary losses.
Through the above methods, you can preliminarily determine whether the injector is faulty. If it is confirmed that there is a problem with the injector, it is recommended to repair or replace it in time to ensure the normal operation of the engine.
